René Jähne studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden and did his doctorate at ETH Zurich in the field of material characterization and -modelling. As part of his research he focused on the development of joint-free, high-performance compliant mechanisms. Towards the end of his doctoral studies, in 2010 together with his two partners he founded a technology-startup. The company has become an EMPA and ETHZ awarded start-up that is specialised in the development and delivery of innovative, joint-free compliant mechanisms for clients from various industries (e.g. medical technology, automation, metrology and precision mechanics). Since June 2015 René Jähne is responsible for the transfer of research results into industry and society within the NCCR Digital Fabrication.
