Peter Richner is Deputy Director and Head of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering Department at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa). After studying chemistry, he completed his graduate studies at ETH Zürich with Prof. Balàzs Magyar. He held an SNSF Postdoctoral Researcher position at Indiana University, USA, after which he returned to Switzerland in 1990 as the Head of the Group for Plasma-Source Mass Spectrometry. He is currently head of Research in Sustainable Built Environment and Energy, as well as Head of the Swiss Competence Centre for Future Energy Efficient Buildings and Districts. Peter Richner is responsible for the Empa NEST living laboratory and as such member of the NCCR Digital Fabrication since June 2014.
