Markus Giftthaler received his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from TU Munich, Germany, in 2011 and his MSc (with distinction) in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics, Systems and Control Specialisation) from ETH Zurich in 2014. During his studies he gained interdisciplinary research experience at internationally leading institutes like the Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany and the ECE-Robotics Lab at UC Santa Barbara, USA. Markus was a PhD student at the NCCR Digital Fabrication from 2014 to 2018. In his work, he focused on Numerical Optimal Control for complex articulated robots with the application context robotic fabrication on building construction sites. He is one of the developers of the In situ Fabricator, a mobile construction robot employed for various building projects. Currently Markus Giftthaler is research scientist at the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence focusing on topics in machine learning and control for autonomous robotic manipulation.
